Hypnosis reveals Barry singer Connie Fisher's pregnancy fears in new BBC documentary

WEST End singer, Songs of Praise host and Barry resident Connie Fisher has talked about the cause behind her fear of motherhood, after undergoing hypnotherapy for a new BBC TV documentary.

The star, 34, who rose to fame after winning BBC One talent contest ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’ and is the patron of Barry’s ‘Superstars in the Making’ theatre group, was hypnotised as part of a new show called ‘Baby Love’.

While filming for the show, Ms Fisher discovered that her reticence to start a family stemmed from the death of her twin brother Justin, who was stillborn.

In the programme, Ms Fisher visits a fertility testing clinic in Cardiff and meets various women who have had difficult experiences either conceiving or managing a family. She also speaks with her 73-year-old friend, who explains why she remains happy with her decision not to have children.

Ms Fisher’s hypnotist in the show, Andrea, also went through eight years of unsuccessful fertility treatment before eventually managing to have children through using eggs from a donor.

The revelation regarding Ms Fisher’s reasons for not yet having children were revealed when, while hypnotised, she told Andrea about when she first became aware that she had a twin brother.

Ms Fisher recounted a story of her grandmother praising her while playing Scrabble as a 10-year-old child, saying: “’Justin would be really proud of you.’

“And I knew who Justin was, I just knew. He’s my brother. She didn’t even have to say. No-one had told me.”

Later in the show, Ms Fisher speaks to her mother about the experience, who warns her not to be put off.

“I remember waking up and the face of the doctor was staring into mine and before he could say anything I said ‘it’s okay, he’s gone’ - I just knew,” she said. “I was unfortunate to lose a child, but that’s a rare occurrence.”

Connie Fisher: Baby Love airs on BBC One on Thursday, January 18 at 8pm.
