Hypnotist Chris Jones to take civic center stage Jan. 25

Hypnotist Chris Jones will perform Jan. 25 at the West Plains Civic Center theater, according to organizers with the University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP).

Tickets for the 7 p.m. event, sponsored by MSU-WP’s U/CP Department, are $10 each and available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through the West Plains Civic Center box office at 110 St. Louis St. or by phone at 256-8087. MSU-WP students with a BearPass ID will be admitted free.

Known as the “Adam Sandler of hypnosis,” Jones offers a high-energy show that is interactive for both those being hypnotized and those watching from the audience, organizers said. His antics are guaranteed to make audiences cry from laughing, they added.

Area residents may recognize Jones from his performance on the 2015 season premiere of “America’s Got Talent.” Jones hypnotized judge Howie Mandel, a well-known germaphobe, to make him shake hands.

A lifelong student and native of Chicago, Jones spent the last seven years living on college campuses. A track and cross country athlete, he became a resident assistant and hall director after finishing graduate school. In his free time, Jones enjoys running marathons and hopes to qualify for the Olympic trials one day.

“We are thrilled to bring an exciting performer like Chris Jones to our campus,” said U/CP Director Brenda Polyard. “Hypnotists are one of our most popular shows.”
